After in the previous material we presented the situation in the Youngsters Long distance category, this time we move on and, as surprising as it may sound, we present you how things were in the case of the Youngsters Marathon category.
In the 2023 season, pigeon fanciers from several counties of the country have decided to hire their young flyers, including at the marathon races, competitions with a distance of more than 700 km. Some of them even achieved the performance of achieving norms, that is, they ranked at least two contests in this category.
121 norms met
Even though there were several county pigeon fancier associations that planned marathon competitions for youngsters, the pigeon fanciers from Suceava and Botoșani had the greatest success. In total, in these two counties, 121 norms were achieved in the Youngsters Marathon category. Of these, 71 were completed by pigeon fanciers from Suceava, and the remaining 51 were completed by breeders from Botoșani. It should be noted that the two associations competed together, and the competition plan contained only two marathon races, so the youngsters that achieved the norm did not have any "reserve" race. This race was launched from Suwalki, Poland, and proposed distances between 750 and 830 km.
The national champion and the vice-champion are from Suceava
Among the 121 youngsters that achieved the norm of the Marathon category, the best score was obtained by the bird with the series RO-2023-0721077, respectively 10.81 penalty points, which belongs to pigeon fancier Costel Refugiatul, from Vicovu de Jos. He took 2nd place out of 775 pigeons and 18th place out of 2,186 pigeons, both with a distance of 718 km. The national vice-champion is Marius Joltea, from Marginea, whose pigeon, with the series RO-2023-1132303, obtained 17.97 penalty points. He placed the same two Suwalki competitions, which for him had a distance of 729 km, obtaining the places 1 out of 1,988 pigeons and 8 out of 458 pigeons.
The two are followed by pigeon fancier Boz Ioan Vasile, from Botoșani. Its winner has the series RO-2023-1104406 and obtained 21.95 penalty points, after placing 2nd out of 770 pigeons and 15th out of 775 pigeons. For him, the Suwalki stage had a distance of 755 km. It is interesting to note that at the level of Botoșani county, Boz Ioan Vasile occupies the first 5 places and had no less than 13 pigeons with the norm in the Youngsters Marathon category.
