Berlin International 2024

The race Berlin National is the most famous pigeons competition organized in Romania. The race is already in its 14th edition, the National Berlin being organized for the first time in 2011. For two editions, Berlin has become an international race, in addition to Romanian pigeon fans taking part in this competition, breeders from Slovakia, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria etc.

The season with old pigeons could not end more beautifully than it does now. In the last weekend dedicated to competitions with old pigeons, for 14 years, the most attractive competition in our country is organized, namely the Berlin International race. Until two editions ago, the race was addressed only to Romanian pigeon fanciers, but, out of the desire to increase the competition, the leadership of the National Union of Pigeon Breeders from Romania decided that it would become an international race, the only one of its kind in our country.

Berlin International, the race of races

Even if it is not the stage with the largest number of pigeons employed, Berlin International is the race in which pigeon fanciers from the majority contyes of pigeon fanciers in Romania participate. From this point of view, of national geographical scope, Berlin is the race that comes closest to what a "national" race really means. At this year's edition, 6,443 pigeons were entered and 966 breeders participated. The counties where the participating pigeon fanciers come from are the following: Arad, Sălaj, Maramureș, Cluj, Sibiu, Hunedoara, Alba, Harghita, Bistrița Năsăud, Mureș, Bihor, Brașov, Prahova, Galați, Giurgiu, Botoșani, Suceava, Caraș Severin, Mehedinți, Satu Mare, Neamt, Iasi, Bacau, Vaslui and Timiș. So, more than half of the number of county branches. "The Berlin National race is in its 14th edition. It was organized for the first time as a national race in 2011, and from 2023 it became an international. It is an emblematic race for Romania and, since it became an international race, we can say that it is an emblematic race for Eastern Europe. The race has a very high level of difficulty. Most of the pigeons have to cross the Tatra mountains and this makes the race very difficult. In addition, we have the high temperatures and the fact that the pigeons have to spread in several directions. But that's why it's such a beautiful race, and winning Berlin is a dream that thousands of pigeon fans aspire to," said Marius Tunduc, president of UNCR-Columba.
