Brothers Ioan and Constantin Ionesi won the historic race Jarolaw 1 (38,840 pigeons)

At the end of last week, the counties of Suceava and Botoșani organized the race where the largest number of pigeons in the history of our country so far was engaged. This race was Jarolaw 1 (Poland), with no less than 38,840 pigeons entered, 894 participating fanciers.

With these figures, any of the participating breeders saw themselves at least for a moment in the first place of the ranking. However, it was the stage of brothers Ioan and Constantin Ionesi, members of the Elite Vicov pigeon club, Suceava county, who won first place on the launch.

The winner is a cock

Race Jaroslaw 1 offered participants distances between 360 and 430 km. The pigeons were released at 06:12 and the conditions were not among the most favorable, with the wind blowing quite strongly from the front. As expected, the first pigeons arrived at the breeders in Suceava county. Among the first arrivals on the launch was the cock RO-2021-0930330, competed by brothers Constantin and Ioan Ionesi, registered at 10:55:39. Having a speed of 1,262.23 m/min, he immediately placed himself on the first position of the live ranking, from where he was no longer removed from any of the participating pigeons. Thus, he entered the history of the Romanian pigeon fancier, as the pigeon that won the stage with the largest number of pigeons entered so far in a competition organized in Romania. "The male is a very good flyer of ours, so far fulfilling norms in different categories in the first 10-15 pigeons per county. And at last year's Jarolaw 1 stage he arrived very well, having the 5th place on release, out of 23,327 pigeons. We took care of the pigeons preparation quite well, as for a headwind stage. In the last two days, the pigeons were fed with a specific mixture, but also taken to three training sessions, of 50 and 20 km", said Constantin Ionesi.
