Gdansk National, a new national race in Romania

Starting with the 2025 season, Romanian pigeon fanciers have the opportunity to be engaged in a new challenge. This consists of a national marathon race, in the true sense of the word, with the possibility of participation by any breeder in the country.

The idea of a national marathon race in Romania is not new. For more than a decade, several provincial or interprovincial races have been organized in our country, with a consistent participation of breeders from several geographical areas. Moreover, pigeon fanciers from all over Romania participate annually in the Berlin International race, but, starting with the 2025 season, UNCR-Columba (National Union of Pigeon Fanciers from Romania) comes with a new proposal.

Gdansk National, a race designed for every participant

Due to the special conditions, different from the championship races, but also due to the distances and the route it proposes, Gdansk National was thought of as a race that would become the "registered brand" of the pigeon sport in Romania. Regarding the flight route, it will be an extremely difficult one, considering that the pigeons will be launched from the vicinity of the city of Gdansk in northern Poland, on the shores of the Baltic Sea. On the other hand, the distances will be those of an extreme marathon. The pigeons will have to travel between +900 and +1,300 km, depending on the area.

Late realese and special organizational conditions

If everything goes according to the schedule and the weather conditions allow, the Gdansk National 2025 race will take place on July 11, 2025. For a good performance of the basketing of the pigeons, several basketing centers will be organized in the country, where the number of participants will allow this. Also, the ranking will be drawn up both at national and zonal level (5 zones), inter-county, county and even by basketing center.

But the absolute novelty is that the pigeons will be released at 14:00, so Gdansk National will be a late release race, so that every participant, regardless of the distance, has a chance to be the winner!
