As expected, Berlin International 2024 was a race that raised the adrenaline of the participants to the highest level. The pigeons were released in very good conditions on Friday morning, at 07:35, but only one pigeon arrived in Romania on the first day of the competition. Thus, the chances of any of the participants winning increased greatly.
Gherasim Marius and Dobândă Marius are the big winners
The first arrivals from Berlin International 2024 were announced, as expected, at the breeders with the smallest distances from the other participating countries, apart from Romania. However, in Romania, only one pigeon arrived, in the Pinczes+Bordianu loft, from Arad. Therefore, the chances of winning the race remained intact even for the pigeon fanciers with the longest distances, which happened: the 1st place Berlin International 2024 was won by the team Gherasim Marius and Dobândă Marius from Iași with a nocturnal arrivel! In the middle of the night, at 02:49:53, the hen RO-2022-009564 arrived in the team loft. With the competition distance of 1,249 km, one of the longest of the stage, it is absolutely obvious that the winning hen flew non-stop! Moreover, two hours later, at 04:40:07, the second hen, with the series RO-2022-0095402, arrived in the loft of the two, ranking 2nd in the competition. Thus, the two pigeon fanciers are the authors of an extraordinary performance: 1st and 2nd place Berlin International 2024. It should be noted that the two arrivals are the only ones recorded during the night!
"We have been competing in this team since 2019, managing in the meantime to position ourselves on the national podium several times. For Berlin we prepared 11 pigeons. We employed them as natural, 7-day-old youngsters, as was the case with the two hens that arrived first. Before boarding they were taken on three 80km training sessions, releasing the pigeons in the evening so that they would arrive almost at dusk. The hen in the second place was also last year in Berlin, having the 149th place on the launch. In addition to all this, we are very happy. It is one of our best performances, especially since we also have very good arrivals. I think we will rank 5 pigeons in the first 100 per release", said Marius Dobândă.
