Laurențiu Blendea, the Romanian who fights with the Dutch

        Laurentiu Blendea is a young pigeon fancier from Drobeta Turnu-Severin, established for several years in the "homeland of the marathon". This is where he began to compete and the top results started to appear quite quickly, so that his name is more and more mentioned in the Dutch pigeon fancier environment when it comes to the marathon stages.

        Laurentiu has been living in the Netherlands for over 10 years, in the city of Ter Aar, in the Southern region. Although passionate about pigeons as a child, he started competing in 2020, his love for pigeons being rekindled by a visit to Michel Verweij, from the very famous Verweij-De Haan tandem.

100% in love with marathon stages. Top finishes at Dutch national races

        For Laurentiu Blendea, the only category that matters is the marathon, and the pigeons he competes with come entirely from the Verweij-De Haan tandem, especially after several of their breeders were moved to his loft to breed here. He competes naturally and his best results have been achieved in national races, although he is part of Afdeling 5, one of the strongest marathon regions in the Netherlands.

        Thus, at the stage of St. Vicent from the year 2021, Laurentiu took the 11th national place, with the female Hope, against 11,617 pigeons. Unfortunately, also competing in 2022 for St. Vicent, Laurentiu's super female arrived home with burns on her body, after the pigeons had to cross a vegetation fire. She managed to rank again, but died the next day.

        In the following season, 2022, Laurentiu's results were even better. For example, at the Perpignan national race (1073 km), Laurentiu's pigeons ranked 14th, 60th, 75th, etc. The 60th national place was achieved by Naomi, who at the same time was the second yearling in the competition at the national level in the whole Netherlands, and the third at the international level. At the Tarbes stage (St. Vicent, 1057 km), Laurentiu achieved the 88th national place but, by far, Laurentiu's best stage this season was Pau National (1054 km), where he managed to place 3 pigeons in top 100 nationally, at places 46, 75 and 97.

        At the end of this dream season, Laurentiu Blendea took 6th place in European Hens, in the PIPA Ranking, but also 13th place national in 3 marathon stages. Due to the fact that he moved and had to build a new kennel, Laurentiu did not compete in 2023. But, 2023 was the year when the first references appeared. Thus, his cousin, Gabriel Ionașcu, who competes in Belgium, took the 12th international place Agen (878 km), the 6th international and national yearling place with a pigeon from Laurentiu's loft.
