Mădălin Digulescu, from Petroșani, Hunedoara county, Romania, is a pigeon fancier in the truest sense of the word. Although he lives in an impossible area to compete, in the Jiului Valley, where the relief is dominated from all directions by the Carpathian Mountains, Mădălin has not given up his passion for pigeons. Thus, he managed to find a perfect solution to compensate for the fact that he cannot participate in competitions from his own location and, at the same time, to fully enjoy the joys offered by this sport.
Being a young pigeon fancier, Mădălin Digulescu got down to business seriously in 2011. That's when he purchased several pigeons from the well-known Romanian breeders Daniel Cobzaru and Ștefan Butucanu, with whom he tried to compete from Petroșani. However, the mountain, and especially the Jiului Valley, makes it impossible to practice pigeon fanciness in this region, which is why, after several years of unsuccessful attempts, resulting in significant losses, Mădălin Digulescu made the decision to stop.
In 2018, he forms a tandem with Cosmin Staicu
The solution he found to stay away from the competition was as clever as it was inspiring. Thus, in 2018, Mădălin formed a tandem with Cosmin Staicu, from Filiași, Dolj, with whom he already has several achievements. From the first year of collaboration, the two had a very good flyer, who won the 1st place in the county Youth Grand Prix Marathon, the 2nd place in the county As Youth Marathon, the 3rd place in the province and 12th in the national Youth Marathon Grand Prix, plus many others top rankings in stages and norms. The collaboration between the two works very well even today, the first two series of chicks reproduced by Mădălin going every year to Cosmin Staicu's kennel in Filiași to be competed.
10 breeding couples. Only marathon pigeons
Mădălin Digulescu is only attracted to the marathon stages. In this regard, only 10 breeding pairs are housed in its breeding compartment. However, they come from some of the best lines of marathon pigeons in the country and abroad. For example, in Mădălin's dam they breed sons from the Olympians of the multiple champion Daniel Cobzaru, pigeons from the Măgirescu+Ojog+Dorneanu trio, but also imported pigeons from pigeon fanciers such as Jelle Jellema, Frans Bungeneers, Cor de Heijde, Herbots, Jos Martens or Van Ouwer Kerk-Dekkers.

With such breeding lines, Mădălin Digulescu enjoys both his own results, in tandem with his colleague, as well as appropriate references. Every year, several young birds from his breeders are destined for auctions, and in 2022, a male purchased by Cristian Lucan, from Suceava, produced one of the best references. He became the sire of the 1st place national Extreme Marathon Palmares 2022, the same pigeon being the 3rd place in the Olympic team of Romania in the category E-Marathon Palmares, the 4th place national Extreme Marathon and the 4th place in the European Cup, category E-Marathon Palmares. Another pigeon bred by Mădălin Digulescu and purchased by Mircea Bejenaru, from Neamț, is the father of the inter-county 1st place winner (4,451 pigeons) at the Birzai National 2023 stage (1053 km).
