The last marathon race of the 2024 season brought the team Brothers Gheorghe+Luca one of the best results in their records. They won outright 1st place on the launch, in very tough conditions and on one of the most difficult routes.
From 2021, Răzvan Luca forms a successful team with brothers Florin and Laurentiu Gheorghe. Together they compete as members of the Dâmbovița Branch and focus on the marathon stages, already achieving some notable results. "We are three boys in the team, Laurentiu and Florin Gheorghe, who are also brothers, and from 2021 I also joined. From the first year we competed, we all managed to take 6th national place in the Marathon category and 7th World Best Pigeon. In recent years we have invested a lot and purchased sons from national champions or Olympic pigeons, the main lines we work with are Jelle Jellema, Gerard van Tuyl, Jan Theelen and Verweij-De Haan", Răzvan Luca explained.
1st place on release. The only pigeon arrived on the first day
As is very well known, several branches from the South of Romania have chosen to compete in 2024 on a new route, launching the pigeons for the marathon and long distance stages in Greece. Thus, three races were organized starting from Athena, with distances between 700 and 850 km for all participants. More precisely, we are talking about pigeon fanciers from Argeș, Vâlcea, Gorj, Dâmbovița and Prahova counties. In the third marathon competition of the season, 170 breeders from these branches entered 602 pigeons, which were released at 06:57 on the morning of August 3rd. It turned out to be the hardest of the three marathon races of the competitive year and when everyone thought that the first day of the race would end without any pigeons arriving, the hen RO-2021-0192273 arrived in the loft of the Brothers Gheorghe+Luca team. The arrival was registered at 20:58:15, the competition distance of the female being 770 km. The speed of only 915.75 m/min. it also shows the difficulty of the race. In addition, the hen of the tandem remained the only pigeon to arrive on the first day of the entire competition, a detail as important as the fact that she won 1st place on the launch. "The hen that won this race in quite difficult conditions with a side wind, being the only pigeon in the race to arrive on the first day, was raced on eggs for a week. At the first stage of the marathon, Atena arrived hit by hail, managing to qualify. We stopped her to recover, we didn't hire her for the second marathon contest, and when we hired her again, for the third marathon, she managed this very good result. To prepare her, before embarking she was taken to three training sessions of 50, 70 and 90 km, and for feeding I used the Versele Laga range", added Răzvan Luca.
