Team Fekete+Lucaciu, National Champions again

An anecdote circulating among pigeon fanciers says, "It’s not hard to reach the top, it’s hard to stay there!" In other words, a top national result could even be the result of chance, no matter how strange it may sound, or a combination of factors or the merit of a fabulous pigeon. However, the true value of a fancier and their pigeons is seen when national trophies are almost "a daily occurrence."

There is a lot known about the Fekete+Lucaciu tandem, consisting of fanciers Robert Fekete and Florin Lucaciu, both from Sălaj. They are well-known not only for being multiple national champions but also for having a unique system of competing.

Only cocks

Like most, Romanian pigeon fanciers compete with both cocks and hens. Very few choose to compete with only one sex, and when that happens, hens are usually the preferred choice. However, this is not the case with the Fekete+Lucaciu tandem. They chose to compete only with cocks. Another unique aspect is that they keep very few pigeons in their flying team, always less than 30. For example, in the 2024 season, they competed with 29 pigeons!

Four National Trophies

Who says that with few pigeons and in a small association, top national results cannot be achieved? The best example is the fanciers we are talking about today, the Fekete+Lucaciu tandem, who in the 2024 season won four national trophies. Moreover, their association is quite small, with only 80 active fanciers in the 2024 season.

The category in which these two fanciers reached the national podium is the Middle distance, their preferred category, where they achieved the following results: 1st National Middle distance (two years), 1st National Middle distance Fanciers (two years), and 3rd National As Middle distance (two years) . All of these were crowned with first place in the national ranking for World Best Pigeon, in the Speed category.
