The "Sîrghi Brothers" tandem consists of pigeon fanciers Florin and Andrei Sîrghi. They live in Golești and have been members of the Columbofile Vrancea Branch since 2012, previously competing for a good period of time in Italy as well. Over time they have targeted several categories, but for a long time they have been focusing more on the marathon races, where they had a dream 2024 season.
Considering the number of national trophies won, the Sîrghi Brothers can be considered the stars of the 2024 season when we talk about the Marathon category and its derivatives. The two are national champions of the Marathon Breeders category, Marathon Breeders two years category and As Marathon Yearlings category, but also national vice-champions of the As Marathon Yearlings and Marathon Yearlings categories.
It was all possible with a team of 18 cocks
The Sîrghi brothers are among the few pigeon fanciers in Romania who compete with only one sex. In their case, their preferences are the cocks, with whom they compete for widowhood. Although they have a large flight lot at the beginning of the season, the Sîrghi brothers prefer to participate in the marathon stages with a few pigeons, so that they can take care and prepare them as they know best. Thus, for the marathon stages of the 2024 season, the two fanciers carefully selected 18 cocks, mature and yearlings, and the choice was more than inspired.
5 national trophies. Two exceptional pigeons
The three marathon stages that the Sîrghi Brothers "attacked" in 2024 were the contests starting from Terespol (Poland), which had a distance of 762 km. At all three competitions, the Sîrghi Brothers had very good performances in the breeders ranking. Thus, at Terespol 1 they occupied the second place, they also occupied the second place at the National Terespol, and at Terespol 2 they occupied the 1st place, all rankings being from the general ranking of the stages. Following this performance, they won 1st place in the National Marathon Breeders, with 15.92 penalty points, and 1st place in th National Marathon Breeders two years, with 51.51 penalty points.
As I mentioned, the Sîrghi Brothers won in the 2024 season no less than 5 national trophies, all in categories with marathon stages. Thus, in addition to the two national trophies from Breeders, the Sârghi Brothers are also the champions of the As Marathon Yearlings category and national vice-champions in the Marathon Yearlings and As Marathon Yearlings. The champion of the As Marathon Yearlings category is the cock with the series RO-2023-0152220, penalized with only 2.89 points (from 3 stages!). The same male is also the vice-champion of the Marathon Yearlings category and, together with the cock with the series 0152331, the vice-champion of the As Marathon Yearlings category (10.34 points), they were the two basic pigeons of the tandem, which contributed decisively to the winning of the national trophies from Breeders, being, every time, team pigeons and among the first to arrive at the breeding!
