The 2021 season was marked by a spectacular comeback of the Ploiești pigeon fancier Cosmin Olteanu. Although he had previously won national trophies, 2021 brought the pigeon fancier from Urlați into the spotlight as he dominated various categories, including the Young Speed category. This success was also reflected in other categories, such as the Young Half-Distance category, which we will discuss further.
The earlier reference to the Young Speed category was not accidental. The two hens of Cosmin Olteanu, which secured the top two national positions in this category, also managed to repeat the same performance in the Young Half-Distance category, taking the 1st and 2nd places on the podium. Thus, the Ploiești pigeon fancier demonstrated consistency and quality in his pigeons.
In the 2021 season, Cosmin Olteanu won six national trophies, a remarkable achievement in the world of pigeon racing. It is noteworthy that all these trophies were won by only two hens: RO-20-0020655 and RO-20-0020011. Three of these awards were first-place prizes, highlighting the superiority of the pigeons raised by Cosmin Olteanu.
Interestingly, the two top-performing pigeons mentioned earlier significantly contributed to his achievements in competitions dedicated to fanciers. The national champion, RO-20-0020655, achieved a penalty coefficient of 3.67 points, while the runner-up, RO-20-0020011, was penalized with 4.59 points. Both pigeons competed as widowers, with their partners at home, demonstrating adaptability and consistent performance under various racing conditions.
Cosmin Olteanu provided valuable information about the origins of these champions. The national champion is descended from a Rudy Van Reeth male, with a mother from Jos Cools. The other hen is bred from a male also from Jos Cools, with a remarkable mother, female 484, a well-known Olympic pigeon in his loft. These details emphasize that the success of the Ploiești pigeon fancier is not accidental but rather the result of careful selection and management of his pigeons.
