Herman Brinkman, the legendary Dutch marathoner, is nicknamed in the pigeon racing world as "Mister Teletext" or "Marathon Man." With 28 appearances on Teletext (top 10 nationally) in just the last 10 years, he has earned this reputation!
The name Brinkman guarantees success, not only in his own breeding but even more so, the successes achieved by other breeders with Brinkman blood ensure this pigeon family much appreciation. Distances almost impassable for other birds become accessible to Brinkman pigeons (over 1300 km to Barcelona!!!) because years of selection have anchored these qualities in the genes of Brinkman pigeons.
The references of Brinkman pigeons are astonishing. Few, if any, could present such a list of national and international references.
The foundation pigeons that led to these successes on a grand scale have their origins in the best marathon pigeons in the world: Van der Wegen (via Eijerkamp) and Jan Theelen (via Vertelman).
Herman Brinkman had the opportunity to acquire the best lines from the powerful Van der Wegen family, namely the lines of 'De Lamme', 'De Barcelona', and 'Oud Doffertje'. Alongside them, the line of the famous '50" of Vertelman, a descendant of the powerful Jan Theelen, Barcelona winners, was added.
The combination of these families and Herman's skill gave rise to a superb success story, always guided by his motto: "Good birds are bred from good birds... and it is as simple as that!"
