Ronnie belongs to that rare category of fortunate pigeon fanciers whose early beginnings in the sport were profoundly influenced by his father, Tonnie. In the modest loft of his hometown Neede, situated near the German border, Ronnie had his first experiences in pigeon racing, savoring the taste of success from the very start, particularly in marathon races.
Even after he began dedicating himself to pigeon racing independently, alongside his wife, Ronnie maintained a close and fruitful collaboration with his father. Together, they developed a shared breeding program where the young birds were raised with care and attention in both lofts, benefiting from the expertise and passion of both men.
His passion for long-distance races was inherited from his father, which led Ronnie to continue participating in the same types of competitions within the ZLU framework at his new location. His racing schedule included no fewer than 18 races over distances of more than 700 km, underscoring his dedication to the sport.
Ronnie is recognized as one of the most talented competitors among pigeon fanciers participating in the "queen race" from Barcelona, where the pigeons must cover a distance of nearly 1400 km. His vast experience and consistent success have placed him in the elite of this sport.
A crucial factor in Ronnie's success has been his collaboration with Arjan Beens' loft, whose birds have had a significant impact on his performance. Moreover, this collaboration has led to the formation of a lasting friendship. In his breeding compartment, there are descendants of renowned pigeons such as "Snelle Jelle," "Marianne," "Miss Gijsje," "Roodmeisje," "Mr. Bergerac," "Rika," "Dancing Moonlight," "Miss Brive," "Miss Sjaan," and "Red Thunder," contributing to the consolidation of a successful bloodline and the perpetuation of valuable genes in the world of pigeon racing.
