As far as the Middle Distance category is concerned, the 2024 season was a good opportunity for some Romanian pigeon fanciers to climb the national podium for the first time. On the other hand, to the same extent, pigeon fanciers with a lot of experience and many national trophies added another trophy to their records. Next, we will present the three champions of the Middle Distance Old nirds, Middle Distance Yearlings and Middle Distance Breeders.
In the Yearlings Middle Distance category, the national podium is occupied, in its entirety, by three pigeon fans from the Suceava Branch.
Petru Cruț is the national youth champion
The national champion of the Yearlings Middle Distance category is Petru Cruț, who achieved this feat with the hen RO-2023-2014487. In the four half-distance stages, the national champion accumulated a coefficient of 15.33 penalty points. One of his most spectacular stages was Jaroslaw 1 (369 km), where he got 5th place out of (attention) 38,840 pigeons!
The national podium of the category is completed by pigeon fans Roșca Artemie Ilie and Leontes Cosmin.
The champion of Old birds is also from Suceava
The national 1st place in the Old birds Middle Distance category was also won in Suceava, by the team of Moroșan Simi and Costică. The champion is a three-year-old cock, with the series RO-2021-1095721, who achieved one of the lowest scores with which this category was won, namely 4.07 penalty points. If at Jaroslaw 1, the champion of the Yealings Middle Distance category took 5th place on the launch, as I mentioned above, the champion from Old Birds took, at the same stage, the 4th place on the launch (38,840 pigeons).
George Vochin (Dolj) and Alexandru Valeriu (Prahova) are the other two pigeon fans who occupy the 2nd and 3rd places nationally.
The Fekete+Lucaciu team is back in force
In the Breeders Middle Distance category, the 1st national place was awarded to the Fekete+Lucaciu team, from the Sălaj branch, made up of pigeon fanciers Robert Fekete and Florin Lucaciu. The two are very well known for the special results achieved over time, and this national cup is nothing more than the return of the Fekete+Lucaciu team to the level they have been used to until now. Very important to mention is the fact that the two became national champions with a coefficient of 17.48 penalty points, obtained by occupying 4 places of 1 per launch (372 km). Equally interesting is the detail that the two pigeon fanciers only compete with widowed cocks and keep a small batch of fliers every year. For example, they started the 2024 season with 29 pigeons.
The next two places on the launch are also occupied by tandems: Ioniță Alin & Lorinț Florin (2nd place) and the Oprișescu Brothers (3rd place), from the Prahova and Dolj branches.
